Defense    2010-03-26 00:00:00
Chimeria wrote:On a slightly different irritation, I was invited to a party, then kicked because they didn't need DPS. Apparently, I was in cat form, and they assumed that only dedicated dps use catform, so without saying anything about it they kicked me. They later let me in when they found out I was tank speced, and after they asked me a bunch of questions about my stats. anyone ever get the urge to ask these people about their attack power and threat mitigation abilities when they do this, just out of spite? If a group kicks you for something like that it just screams retards. You should be glad to not be in the group and not accept the new don't need any defense if you have SotF. It makes you uncrittable. Defense is a very meh stat for tanking druids. Adds a little bit of dodge and chance to be...
Woes of a birdmaster    2010-03-15 00:00:00
You can also swim from STV to Westfall. It takes longer, but is much safer - I usually aim myself in a course that avoids dangerous landfalls, set my alarm for 2-3 minutes, then do something else (organize inventory, browse forums, grab some food, etc...) until my alarm goes off. Rinse and repeat until close to arriving. Oh, and if you do decide to run, guild tabards are very nice for avoiding /whistles, deviant RP attempts, and such. I didn't have one for my first run (alliance going from duskwood to Booty Bay, level 19), and my priestess's reputation has never been the same since :p-Ulysses S. Arena Team    2010-03-08 00:00:00
My arena experience (extremely little as it has been) has been pretty dismal as an SV Hunter. I know that BM is supposed to be "the" Hunter spec for Arena, but I'm not that serious about it that I want to spend 100g/week respecing for 30 minutes worth of Arena matches. My first arena experience was on a 5v5 team with some people from a guild I had just joined. They were all pretty much brand new to arena and weren't expecting to win. On the 10th run, they even went so far as to unequip all of their armor and do the fight naked. We went from a shiny new 1500 rating to just over 1300 in the course of 10 matches. I just joined a 3v3 team last night with the MS Warrior and Resto Shammy I run instances with. We're taking it a bit more seriously and after 10 matches we're 2-8 (we do our best to win but we know we're badly outgeared in most fights and the people we're up against often have way more experience than we do). We're all very well geared for non-heroic 5-man PvE stuff, but we're just starting to put together the Honor/Marks for non-arena epic PvP gear. The next patch will change Wyvern Sting to an instant cast ability (wee! Finally some reliable full-range CC!) That will help. A tiny bit. We're mostly into the PvE, however, an...
Dr Boom DPS    2010-03-01 00:00:00
Given my armory and using either a 1:1 macro or 3:2 macro posted in the link here, I top out at around 800 DPS if I go OOM, use BW, Orc racial, and the trinket as they come up and drink 2 mana pots to make the fight last longer. Is this about normal? If you're asking that question, you should read the sticky. OC world of Warcraft unites China     2010-02-20 00:00:00
It’s a cliche, but it’s true: East is East, and West is West. At least as it applies to the way that Americans and the Chinese play and use “World of Warcraft,” the phenomenally popular computer game developed by Blizzard Entertainment of Irvine.UC Irvine anthropologist and informatics professor Bonnie Nardi and her graduate student, Silvia Lindtner, spent time earlier this year studying gamers in Beijing playing WoW in Internet Cafes. Nardi shared some of her early insights in a recent e-mail:“The vast majority of Chinese players are not ‘gold farmers’ (people who play to generate game gold, which is then sold for real money). They’re ordinary ...
group I would say you are barely    2010-02-08 00:00:00
It will depend on the rest of your group. I would say you are barely ready, from a gear persptive, to run Naxx & heros. However, given your scess stories, I assume that you are a very good healer. Most people have been saying to target these stats: Spell Power > 1,400rit > 25% (Holy) Mana > 15k MP5 and Haste are now being argued over by everyone. MP5 bause of Divine Plea, and Haste bause of JotP. I always like to make sure I have at least 100 MP5 unbuffed, but that is just bause I'm stubborn. If you repled your boots (whh are itemized for Ret, not Holy), and ehanted your gear, I bet you will see a large enough differee where you will be moreomfortable in the harder heros.tu...
Beta Stories!    2009-11-09 00:00:00
Q-3P0 stopped by the forums and gave us more beta stories!:Yes, we're focusing on the positive ones. Yes, there are a lot of positive ones to choose from. In fact, most negative ones deal with bugs or balance issue that should be addressed in an upcoming publish or two.quote:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, I have seen some other hard-core players here say that they are the target audience. I disagree. I quite possibly faul into that category. I am 31 years old, married with beautiful 10 month old daughter. With a long drive to work, and even longer drive home, I have limited time to play (if I'm lucky, a couple of hours a night, and usually when the server is down). My weekends are always family filled, so I don't get much more time there. I have never played a MMORPG before, partly because I knew the potential of how fun it would be and I would want to play it all the time. I really always wanted so badly to play Everquest. So one day at work (bored), I went online to check out the game I heard about in PC Gamer a long time ago. I went to the website, and noticed they were accepting apps for BETA testers. I went ahead and applied, and pretty much forgot about it. When the acception came, I flipped my lid. I told everybody in my office, whether I like them or not. Why did I act so crazy? Because I'm part of the target audience. I saw Star Wars the first time when I was 5-6 years old, and I was in. Everything in my youth was Star Wars. I collected the figurines, the AT-AT walker (I still have), the Death Star and all of that. A good deal of you out there know exactly what I'm talking about. Star Wars to us is EPIC!!! Maybe all of us, I don't know. I am a huge gamer, my favorites include Diablo II, Starcraft, Warcraft series, Unreal Tournament, Half-Life and so on. The point is this, I have never been a BETA tester before, and if I could pick any game to be a BETA tester on in the history of games, it would be this one. And this game is AWESOME! When the final release comes out, and all the bugs are worked out *LOL*, this game will far surpass my wildest imagination. Some have complained that the game is not linear... The fact that it isn't is what makes the game so great! You can pretty much do whatever the heck you want to do in this game. It is truly a virtual reality. I've played the game enough to become familiar with Moenia on Naboo. I just love this little town. Once we are able to fill out our character sheets, this will be my birthplace. But I've been other places too, Tatooine, Correlia and a couple of others I think. Every planet I've been to is completely stunning. I've tried to travel on foot between two far-apart cities, and wound up just getting my self killed so I could clone, I was so tired. This game is vast, and with the limited time I have to play, this game will take up the free time I have for the considerable future. And that is a point I also want to address. If I could be a test gamer and make a living at it, I would do it in a heartbeat, but I'm not. I have an MCSE and work on Voice data servers all day. I love to game when I come home, and sometimes it interuppts dinner, and sometimes I neglect my husbandly duties so I can try to play for a few minutes. That is a problem. And that is the danger of a game like this. Don't get me wrong, I love this game and will try to be a better husband while still playing this game. But I can see the trap, and I know I'm not alone in this. Couples will get divorced because of this game, and that is a fact. It happened with Everquest, and this game is going to draw the larger aud...
PlanetFargo: Super Tuesday Bros. Brawl    2009-10-24 00:00:00
Fargo: Round-the-clock election coverage continues here at GameSpy on Super Smash Tuesday, a pivotal night in the election cycle. You can meet the candidates in our Super Smash Bros. Brawl Coverage Index. Here with me today is fellow GameSpy news anchor Gerald, who's been following the exit polls closer than a pair of ice climbers. Gerald, are things shaking out tonight as you predicted?Gerald: So far the rhetoric hasn't surprised me -- you've got Fox McCloud hyping up his war record and Yoshi eating opponents in the recent debate. Fargo: Hold on, this just coming in -- Squirtle is stepping out of the race. Wow, that's a bitter blow for his supporters, but we suspected as much when he couldn't hold on to Florida. Let's go live to his concession speech:Squirtle: Squirtle, squirtle. Squirtle. [Sustained applause] Squirtle! Squirtle. [Bows his head]Fargo: An emotional speech -- Was he crying?Gerald: I think he was just squirting. This is interesting because it leaves Ivysaur as the Pokemon party frontrunner and de-facto candidate, even though hardliner Pokemon don't feel he upholds their Poke-values. Let's roll a tape of his earlier campaign stop:Ivysaur: Ivy. Ivysaur! IVYSAUR! [Audience boos] Ivy, IvySAUR.[Thumps podium]Fargo: But honestly, I think most moderates would support his position there. Hold the phone, my producers tell me we've got Solid Snake on comm channel 140.15 for a live interview. Snake?Snake: [Appearing with a "Fweep!" sound] Otacon?Fargo: No, thi...
In Australia, MMOs May Be Target of Police Crackdown    2009-10-12 00:00:00
Could Australian police soon be rounding up retailers who sell World of Warcraft and other massively multiplayer online games? That's one possible scenario. As reported by the Syndey Morning Herald, a controversy has arisen Down Under as to whether MMOs need to be rated for content under Australian law.Government officials believe that - like all other video games - they do. Meanwhile, the Aussie game industry has taken the opposite view. Ron Curry, who heads the Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia told the newspaper that MMOs do not fall under content classification requirement because they are hosted outside of Australian territory:There are different classification requirements for games depending on how they are accessed by consumers. For instance, for a game sold off the shelf, where the media material is stored on a disk in the package, the classification requirements are straight forward and you wil...
Square/Enix cracks down on Final Fantasy XI RMT    2009-09-21 00:00:00
The folks at Square/Enix have had a rough time with in-game money sellers, commonly known as gold or gil-farmers. Over the last few years they've taken some drastic steps to curtail the activities of RMT vendors inside the world of Final Fantasy XI. At the Austin Game Developer's Conference last year, they spent the majority of a keynote session talking about their efforts to stamp out the farming menace. Through the tireless work of the anti-RMT squad onstaf...
